What is Sake?

What kind of sake is it?

For foreigners who are not familiar with it, it may not be recognizable from that point of view.

Because it is nearly transparent, many people think it looks like a distilled spirit and that it has a high alcohol content.
In reality, however, it is a beverage with an average alcohol content of 15%, almost the same as red wine, or about 1% higher than red wine.

This makes it ideal for pairing with meals and sometimes called rice wine.
However, just like wine, there are different types of sake, sweet and dry.
Sake that has never been cooked is called nama-zake.It requires refrigeration to preserve its quality, which is difficult to maintain, and the drinking period is short.Instead, it has a unique freshness and a slightly sour-sweet taste.

The sake you can drink is heated twice, so you can bring it on the plane as a souvenir!

The taste is mild and cohesive due to heating.

Next, let’s look at the types of flavors. One of Niigata Prefecture’s representative flavors is called “light and dry”.

The other flavor is said to be mellow sweetness.

A detailed explanation will be given in the next issue.
