I would like to announce my top five drinks of the year 2024.
To be frank, I don’t rank them because the taste depends on my mood and physical condition, but it doesn’t make any difference.I do not give a relative score, for example, a perfect score of 100 points, and I do not give a number of points after that.
First up is Murayama Omachi.
It is well known that the Takagi Brewery, which produces the 14dai sake, is providing technical guidance to the brewery.By the way, I first bought it in a bottle, but I mistakenly kept it in the freezer for 4 hours.I took it out in a hurry and drank the sorbet, which was a clever injury that increased the flavor and made it even more delicious.
Next is Nabeshima’s New Moon.
As the name suggests, it is a new type of Nabeshima and is a fresh sake.I hadn’t had it in maybe 9 years.I remember drinking it at an izakaya (Japanese style bar) and thinking how good it tasted, but it was so long ago that I bought it thinking how nostalgic I was.I was surprised at how juicy it was.In terms of juiciness, it might be the best.
Third, Kubota Junmai Daiginjo. This is the famous sake Kubota, but I never used to buy it because of its high price, but I found a Junmai Daiginjo at a supermarket for 1980 yen.It is definitely in the light and dry style, but since no brewing alcohol is added, it does not taste too harsh and is very easy to drink.Niigata sake is not designed to be kept refrigerated, so you don’t have to pay much attention to temperature control.
The fourth is Sara, it is a sake brewery in Saitama Prefecture, I had my doubts about whether such a thing would taste good, but since the liquor store restricts sales to one bottle per customer, I bought it thinking that it must be that popular. The price is not so expensive, about 3300 yen for a bottle. When I drank it, it was very juicy and fresh, contrary to my expectations. However, compared to the first time I drank it, the second time I drank it, it seemed a little spicy, so I felt that the quality had not yet reached the point where it was stable.
Finally, we have Ippaku Suisei’s Sunday Buck 9.This one is reasonably priced in the series, but it also has a yellowish color and a fruity taste. In my personal opinion, the more colorful the label or color, the juicier the flavor, and the more subdued the color, the more traditional sake tastes.
It was another hot year, but there was plenty of good sake to be had!
